Picasso. The Vallauris series

The Museum of Montserrat possesses a series of posters by Pablo Picasso of notable interest. These affiches, the majority of them accompanied by a handwritten dedication from the artist, originate from the donation made by architect Xavier Busquets in 1990. Busquets became friends with Picasso as a result of commissioning the design for the sgraffito artwork that we see on the facade of the Association of Architects (Col·legi d’Arquitectes) in Barcelona's Cathedral Square. In the 1950s and 1960s, Picasso organized an annual bullfight and an exhibition of his own work, generally ceramics, in Vallauris—very close to his residence on the Côte d’Azur—for his friends and collectors. Picasso engraved a linocut poster for this event, which many of his friends collected and those closest to him had autographed.
