Montserrat Mainar (Barcelona, 1928–2015) was a Catalan enamel artist who trained at the Escola Massana under Miquel Soldevila. She created the altar frontal for the high altar of Montserrat Basilica.
In the work on display here, faces in profile emerge amid fields of colour, textures and luminous areas. The composition suggests a silent dialogue between the figures, balancing figuration and abstraction. The soft tones of the faces contrast with dark bands and accents of red and gold.
